Plasma Diagnostics in Basic Plasma Physics Devices and Tokamaks 2014

It might be a long title for a summer course: "Plasma Diagnostics in Basic Plasma Physics Devices and Tokamaks: from Principle to Practice", but so is the list of topics that will covered. This unique course held at Centre de Recherches en Physique des Plasmas (CRPP) in Lausanne, Switzerland is worth visiting, not the least for the opportunity to get hands-on training on the TCV tokamak.

All students are invited to join this third edition of the summer course in Lausanne, taking place from June 30 - July 4, 2014.

The course lasts one week (2 ECTS) and is open to EPFL students and also students from other Universities and Institutes, we especially welcome students from FuseNet members. In this course, Ph.D. and Master students learn specific aspects of plasma diagnostics with hands-on training on the TORPEX device and the TCV tokamak.

The program allows students to learn plasma diagnostics and data processing methods of modern fusion experiments and to bridge the gap between diagnostics theory and experimental practice.

The course benefits from the combination of:

  • TORPEX: a small basic plasma physics device, which allows for excellent diagnostic access and easiness of data interpretation
  • TCV tokamak, one of the three national facilities in Europe to be used in the context of the European Fusion Roadmap. On TCV, Students have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with plasma diagnostics typical of the high temperature plasmas of modern tokamaks.

The prior knowledge required includes basic knowledge of plasma physics and basic knowledge of Matlab or similar languages. See the link below for more information and to subscribe.
