PlasmaSurf - 2014 summer school on plasma physics

The second edition of Plasmasurf will take place from 20 to 25 July close to Oeiras, Portugal. Besides great waves and sunny Portugal, this summer school constist of a short training course covering the basic aspects of plasma physics, high power lasers and nuclear fusion. It is an introduction to plasma physics at a master level targeted at students wishing to develop their knowledge in these fields towards PhD studies or a broader education in physics.

Main topics to be covered include:

  1. introduction to plasma physics
  2. magnetic and inertial nuclear fusion confinement
  3. kinetic and magneto-hydrodynamic description of a plasma
  4. large international experiments involving plasma science
  5. plasmas on earth and in deep space

One of the goals of the course is to promote a lively interaction among students and lecturers between the sessions, visits and lunch time. There will be an invited evening lecture deserve a special attention: "The Physics of Surf and the Environment" exploring the similitude between surfing sea waves and plasma waves.

The accommodation cost (7 nights, from Saturday to the next Saturday), and workdays breakfast+lunch will be covered by IST.

For detailed information about the event and registration can be found on the PlasmaSurf website. Deadline for application: Friday 30 May 2014
