CCFE Junior Research Fellowship in Fusion Plasma Physics

Worcester College, University of Oxford, in conjunction with the Culham Centre for Fusion Energy offer the The Culham Junior Research Fellowship in Fusion Plasma Physics

The College proposes to award a Junior Research Fellowship in Fusion Plasma Physics, tenable from 1 October 2015 for three years. The post is intended to be a career development position suitable for someone who is close to completing a doctorate, or is of post-doctoral standing in the early stages of their academic career. This post is part of the partnership between the University of Oxford and the Culham Centre for Fusion Energy.

The Junior Research Fellow is expected to engage in high quality research with a substantial theoretical component in the field of Fusion Plasma Physics. The Junior Research Fellow will be required, in term time, to give 2 hours per week of tuition in Physics. The postholder will also be required to take part in the annual undergraduate admissions procedures. Candidates must have a minimum qualification of a Bachelor of Science degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject and evidence of a high standard of research ability or potential (commensurate with the candidate’s career). 

The Fellow will receive a stipend in the range of £30,434 - £35,256 per annum (revised annually), including a housing allowance of £4,000, and will have access to certain travel, research and publication funds. The Fellow is entitled to single live-in accommodation incorporating a study, if available, for which rent is charged at a reduced level, reflecting its use for work purposes. In the event that accommodation is not required or available, the housing allowance will be paid. When the kitchens are open, the Fellow is entitled to free meals in the College as a member of the Senior Common Room.

Applicants must also arrange for two confidential letters of recommendation to be sent direct to the College by the same date.
