The Joint IAEA/ENEA/EMFCSC Fusion School

Dear Lecturers and Colleagues,

The Joint IAEA/ENEA/EMFCSC Fusion School will take place 7-12 June 2026, in Erice, Italy, at the historic Ettore Majorana Foundation and Centre for Scientific Culture (EMFCSC), an institution renowned for fostering international scientific exchange since its establishment in 1962 by physicist Antonino Zichichi.

Course Focus: This advanced-level course integrates plasma physics, magnetic confinement design, materials science, and fusion engineering. Special emphasis is placed on the relationship between magnetic field strength, machine size, and engineering constraints.

 Key Topics

  • Magnetic confinement design (tokamaks and stellarators)
  • Tritium fuel cycle and breeding blankets
  • Power exhaust and divertor technologies
  • Fusion neutronics and materials
  • Safety, regulation, and environmental considerations

Participation & Registration: Participants must be designated by an IAEA Member State or invited organization and apply via the InTouch+ platform (https://intouchplus.iaea.org). Deadlines apply for financial support and registration.

  •  17 April 2026 Deadline for submission of applications InTouch+ platform (https://intouchplus.iaea.org) for participants requesting financial support, covering school activities, meals, and accommodation at the EMSFC
  • 8 May 2026 Deadline for submission of applications via the InTouch+ platform for participants not requesting financial support

Financial Support: The estimated cost of attendance is around €1000 per student, covering school activities, meals, and accommodation at the EMFCSC, for a limited number of selected participants.

  •  Limited financial support is available from the IAEA for selected participants. Priority for financial support will be given to applicants from Southern Europe and Africa.
  • FuseNet support is available for eligible students from EUROfusion member states.
