Talk abstract:

Research on burning plasmas aims to deliver a carbon free, virtually unlimited and safe power source. After more than 50 years of investigation, a nuclear fusion power plant is still a future objective. For this reason, the disposal of funds and resources on the field is often subject to criticism. By studying the 2019 Final Report of the Committee on a Strategic Plan for US Burning Plasma Research, we will try to understand the motivation and the benefits of investing on nuclear fusion research.
