The 2025 edition of the PlasmaSurf Summer Course was organized by the Instituto de Plasmas
e Fusão Nuclear (IPFN) and held at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) in Lisbon, taking place from
13th to 19th July.
The program was composed by lectures on plasma physics, covering topics such as magnetic
and inertial confinement, plasmas in space, and laser-plasma interaction. The structure was
adapted to participants from diverse academic backgrounds. The first sessions introduced the
fundamentals, ensuring that everybody could follow more advanced lectures. On Friday 18th,
we enjoyed an amazing talk about the ITER project, and visits to some IST laboratories,
including the ISTTOK, part of IPFN.
Afternoons were dedicated to outdoor activities such as kayaking, rock climbing, surfing, and
mountain boarding, as well as an emotive dinner on Friday. These activities were all super fun,
but also allowed the creation of connections and friendships, while preparing us for the next
day of lectures.
To sum up, PlasmaSurf is a unique opportunity to learn about plasma physics while building
lasting connections with incredible people from all over the world. I encourage anyone
interested in plasmas and nuclear fusion to apply for next editions. Finally, I would like to
thank the IPFN organizers for making this experience possible, and FuseNet for their financial
support.
