This summer, I had the incredible opportunity to attend a series of lectures that
intertwined the fascinating fields of oceanography and plasma physics. These lectures
not only expanded my knowledge but also deeply enriched my academic journey and
professional aspirations.
The oceanography lectures, led by Professor Pedro Bicudo from IST, were particularly
captivating. His enthusiasm for surfing and his dedication to preserving coastal
environments resonated with me. It was a unique experience that broadened my
perspective on how physics can be applied to environmental conservation.
The plasma physics lectures were equally fascinating. We covered a wide range of
topics, from the fundamental properties of plasmas and their applications in the lab
and nature, to the promise of nuclear fusion as a clean energy source. The discussions
on plasma oscillations, particle transport, and the workings of tokamaks were
particularly intriguing. I felt a sense of awe learning about the complexities and
potential of plasma technologies in energy and space exploration.
Hands-on sessions, such as those involving Langmuir probes and spectral analysis,
provided practical insights that solidified my theoretical understanding. These
experiences were not only educational but also deeply motivating, reinforcing my
passion for pursuing a career in these cutting-edge fields.
Overall, these lectures have been a profoundly positive experience, significantly
enriching my curriculum and equipping me with valuable knowledge and skills. I am
grateful for the opportunity to learn from such passionate and knowledgeable
professors, and I am excited about the future possibilities that these experiences have
opened up for me.
Furthermore the external activities, not related to plasma physics, were a great moment
for bonding and enjoying the summer even more.
