PlasmaSurf was so far the best summer school I have ever attended. It took place from the
13th to the 19th of July, and the entire week was both inspiring and unforgettable.
The lectures were designed such that students from all levels, bachelor, master, and PhD
could follow and benefit from them. The professors were incredibly passionate about their
topics, which made the sessions engaging and motivating. Even within the short time frame,
they managed to deliver excellent lectures that sparked curiosity and encouraged us to learn
more about plasma physics and fusion research. One of the highlights of the week was
visiting the ISTTOK tokamak. We had the chance to see how the lab operates and talk
directly with the scientists working there. This was really an inspiring experience, as it gave
us a real insight into experimental fusion research and what it means to work in such an
environment.

I am particularly interested in the medical applications of fusion. In most seminars or
summer schools I have attended, I hadn’t met people working in this area and never got a
proper introduction. At PlasmaSurf, this topic was actually discussed in class, which finally
gave me that missing foundation. After the session, I spoke with the professor and he
answered my questions in depth and even shared contacts I can follow up with for further
learning. This was truly valuable for me, as it opened new pathways to explore a field I am
deeply passionate about.

What made PlasmaSurf even more unique was the balance between academic learning and
outdoor activities. Every afternoon we participated in various outdoor activities such as
surfing, mountain boarding, kayaking, rock climbing, and slacklining. These activities were
really fun, and also gave us the opportunity to interact with one another and build
friendships. There were 29 participants, it was amazing to see how quickly we bonded and
learned from each other’s perspectives. We also experienced how important teamwork and
collaboration are in today’s world of science.

Overall, PlasmaSurf was an incredible experience, both academically and personally. I am
truly grateful to FuseNet for supporting and encouraging students like us to take part in such
events. This summer school left me motivated, connected, and excited for the future of
fusion research/
