Electrostatic instabilities and transport in magnetized fusion plasmas – theory and simulations

The post-doc will work within the “Fusion Plasmas” research group based in Institut Jean Lamour, Nancy, with the main guidance of Dr. Maxime Lesur.

The topic is quite open, as long as it connects to our team's interests in plasma physics.

Currently, a cylindrical magnetized plasma device (linear device), called SPEKTRE, which was designed to model many aspects of the edge of a fusion reactor, is in construction in our lab. Our current activities include modeling future SPEKTRE plasmas, with fluids and/or gyrokinetic models, and with a special care for end-losses and boundary conditions more generally.

Anyway, the topic of the postdoc will be mainly driven by the interests of the candidate.

The main place of work would be in Nancy, but depending on the topic, stays in other labs in France and abroad will be considered.

Applications are welcomed as early as possible. Ideally the contract would start around September 2024, but it could start anytime before the end of 2024. Early 2025 might be negotiable.

The duration of this postdoctoral contract is initially planned to be two years, but an additional 1-year extension will be seriously considered.

This contract is funded by the selective Lorraine Université d’Excellence (LUE) program, and is part of a project selected by Institut Universitaire de France.
