Mechanical Engineers - Chemical and physical deposition

Renaissance Fusion is the first Magnetic Confinement Fusion company in the EU.

We are building the first net-energy producing stellarator by combining proprietary innovations in the manufacturing of next-generation High-Temperature Superconducting (HTS) magnets and liquid metal (LM) walls.

In addition, these technologies can find applications in several other industries, including medical imaging, energy storage and“big science”. We are forming a team of the smartest, most driven engineers and business persons to realize and commercialize our non-fusion products within 2 years and our fusion solutions within 10 years.

What we are looking for:

We are looking for talented mechanical engineers to design and lead the assembly of Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) and Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) machines for the deposition of High Temperature Superconducting (HTS) materials. At a later stage the mechanical engineers might work on systems for the characterization and patterning of HTS films and magnets.

Responsibilities

Individual responsibilities:

  • Define technical solutions to meet the process engineers’ specifications.

  • Realize CAD designs and write specification documents.

  • Supervise the in-house or outsourced construction of structural parts of the deposition and characterization systems.

Responsibilities as a team member

  • Coordinate with the machinist, the electronic/electrical engineer, vacuum engineer, and other members of the HTS machines design team.

  • Occasionally assist other groups (Fusion Engineering and/or Liquid Metals) if they have a peak in workload in the areas of mechanical design and modeling. Equivalently, work with mechanical engineers from other groups, if HTS has a peak in mechanical design and modeling activities.

Qualifications -essential:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field.

  • 3+ years of experience in machine design.

  • 1+ years of experience in mechanical parts machining.

  • 3+ years of experience with SolidWorks.

  • Written and oral communication skills. Ability to explain complicated concepts in a clear, concise manner.

  • Ability and drive to engage with a team of scientists and engineers, understand complex descriptions and needs, and ability to translate them into technical requirements and “on time, on budget, on specs” designs.

  • Organizational and problem-solving skills, attention to detail and will to learn.

  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team.

Qualifications -desirable:

  • MSc degree in mechanical engineering or related field.

  • Previous experience in the semiconductor and/or superconductor industry.

  • Previous experience in designing physical and/or chemical deposition machines.
