The department has 150 permanent staff, 60% professors (90 full, associate and tenure and tenured assistant professors) and 40% technical and administrative staff. It has yearly 130 temporary researchers, among 40 PhD students on various programs for the three years, 25 post-docs, 25 consultants and 40 fellowships.
The DICI (Dipartimento di Ingegneria Civile e Industriale) of the Engineering School of the University of Pisa was established in 2012 by merging different old departments.
The M.Sc. in Nuclear Engineering is coordinated just inside the DICI of the University of Pisa and the teachers are part of the Nuclear Engineering Research Group.The teachers of the Nuclear Engineering Research Group performs research activities in different fields of the nuclear fission and fusion reactor technologies, as: Nuclear Thermal-hydraulics, Nuclear Materials and decommissioning, Nuclear Measurements and Radioprotection, Reactor Physics, Structural Mechanics, Nuclear Safety and others.
