PhD course in Strategic Innovation for Sustainable and Smart Ecosystems: FUSION track

  • What is it about?

The FUSION track, within the PhD in Strategic Innovation for Sustainable and Smart Ecosystems, aims at training PhDs capable to be active players in the emerging era of nuclear fusion as a promising baseload energy source to fulfill the increasing electricity demands of the society of the future. The track trains students in one or more of the following profiles:

  • Nuclear Fusion Diagnostics and Sensors Expert
  • Nuclear Fusion Material Expert
  • Nuclear Fusion High Performance Computing Expert

  •  Why a Physics track on FUSION in an industrial PhD course?

With the advent of the next generation of nuclear fusion devices, nuclear fusion will enter the burning plasma era and will move from a primarily scientific endeavour towards a technological effort at industrial scale. This PhD program aims at combining training in physics with technological and industrial aspects of nuclear fusion in selected areas that benefit from the synergies of the expertise shared between the University of Milano-Bicocca and established industrial companies in Italy, such as Eni SpA.
