I am extremely glad I decided to attend the 59th Culham Plasma Physics Summer School. It was the richest two weeks I could have ever imagined. The school is organized very well. The schedule was very tight and packed with lectures and problem sessions, but we also had the chance of mingling with the other participants both during organized events and not. I got the chance to learn and go through the physics principles behind fusion and even to visit labs and have a tour of JET and MAST. It is incredible how in those places you could literally feel scientists and engineers working for a common goal. The lecturers were all experts in their field and always available to answer our several questions.

The school gave me the opportunity of meeting so many interesting people from all over the world, all working or willing to work for a better future. It was the year with the highest number of attendees in the school’s history and this has enriched the experience even more. Networking was extremely important, and I had the chance to learn about how many fields exist that are connected to fusion, how opportunities the world offers. Of course, networking also meant having dinner together every evening and hanging out with these special people, which I can now consider friends!

The provided accommodation at the William Miller building was in a perfect location very close to Oxford city centre, supermarkets and bus stops. I had a room on my own, furnished with everything I needed, and breakfast was included. During the two weeks of school, I also had the time to visit the city with its beautiful colleges (and pubs!) and to stroll around and to get to know its important history.

I would highly recommend this experience to anyone, even if new to plasma physics and nuclear fusion!
