Hi! My name is Max Winkel and I am pursuing a double master’s program, combining the MSc Science and Technology of Nuclear Fusion and MSc Applied Physics at Eindhoven University of Technology, the Netherlands. As a part of the program, we have the opportunity to do a ~3 month internship in an international environment. Using the network of our professors, this environment turned out to be the MHD and fast particles research group at the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics in Garching, Germany. 

My name is David Becker, and I am a Master student at TU Eindhoven. Partly thanks to FuseNet, I was able to do a 5-month internship at ITER in St. Paul-lez-Durance, France. ITER is an international collaborative project aimed at demonstrating the scientific and technical feasibility of nuclear fusion as a new green energy source for the future. I am glad to have had the opportunity to be a part of this amazing project, to work in such an interesting international environment and to live in the south of France for five months. I also 

My name is Rick van Schaik and I am a master student at the University of Technology in Eindhoven, studying Science and Technology of Nuclear Fusion. I deeply enjoyed my first year of courses and developed an unwavering passion for the realisation of fusion energy. My goal is to obtain more relevant knowledge and skills to take part in this purposeful endeavour. 

This summer, I had the privilege of participating in the SUMTRAIC 2024 summerschool at the Institute of Plasma Physics (IPP) in Prague, thanks to the support ofFuseNet. The event took place from August 26th to September 6th and offered me animmersive experience in nuclear fusion and runaway electrons.

From January to June 2024, I had the great opportunity to conduct my master thesis project at the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics in Garching, Germany. During my stay I worked on new ways of calibrating of the electron density measurements using the Thomson scattering diagnostic. Since the Thomson scattering system is very sensitive to displacements in the diagnostic setup and the initial calibration takes a lot of time new ways of improving the measured density profiles have been implemented.

On what seemed like a regular class day, I suddenly got an email that changed everything—I had been accepted to undergo my master's thesis internship at the Swiss Plasma Center(SPC), one of the world’s leading institutes in Plasma Physics. A few months later, I packed my bags and headed to Lausanne (Switzerland) to start my project on the characterization of helicon waves in the TORPEX toroidal plasma device. I had never even heard of helicon waves before this. I learned they are essentially bounded whistler waves that can

I was among the students who had the opportunity to participate in the Carolus Magnus Summer School (CMSS) 2024 which took place at the Royal Military Academy, Belgium, jointly hosted by DIFFER – Dutch Institute for Fundamental Energy Research and Forschungszentrum Jülich and generously sponsored by Ressainance Fusion from the 24th of June to the 5thof July, 2024. My attendance at CMSS 2024 was also facilitated through the travel and subsistence support from FuseNet.
