From April to July of 2023, I did an internship project at KTH in Stockholm, Sweden. The objective was to evaluate the accuracy of the reduced two-temperature model for hot tail runaway electron generation. This involved utilizing the DREAM code to simulate numerous plasma disruptions while varying scanning parameters and comparing the outcomes with a more complete (superthermal) model. During my project I did some literature research into runaway electrons and the working behind the Disruption runaway electron analysis model (DREAM).

With the support of FuseNet, I attended the PlasmaSurf Summer Course from July 16th to July 22nd 2023, organized by Instituto de Plasmas e Fusão Nuclear, a research unit of Instituto Superior Tecnico of Lisbon. It was a fast-paced week with lots of activities and opportunities, and I made great connections and great memories.

Valentin Gerenton - This summer school was a first for me. Thanks to this event, I was able to find out even more about fusion and research. I got an overview of what was currently possible with fusion but also what could be done around fusion and the importance of integrating AI to process large quantities of data when diagnosing plasma. I had the opportunity to talk to students from all over the world about fusion and their work. But I was also able to meet some great researchers who were able to make their research understandable by presenting it to us.

Between 26th June 2023 and 30th June 2023, I attended the 12th ITER International School in Aix-en-Provence, France. This summer school focused on the topic of "The Impact and Consequences of Energetic Particles on Fusion Plasma". Students from all over Europe and also from other continents participated in this event, so it was a perfect opportunity to meet young physicists from all over the world. From September 2022 to April 2023, I did my internship at the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics in Garching, Germany. It was undoubtedly the most enriching period of my university experience, both in terms of scientific knowledge and personal growth.

The ITER International School provided an exhilarating experience in the field of plasma physics! From June 26 to June 30, 2023, I had the privilege of attending this remarkable event held in Aix-en-Provence, France. The school was dedicated to the captivating realms of nuclear fusion, with a particular focus on EP Physics in Magnetized Plasmas. It brought together 160 participants from various backgrounds and locations worldwide.

My internship at the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics in Munich has been a precious moment of learning and personal growth.  During my stay, I investigated the existence of the detachment cliff in ASDEX Upgrade both in L-mode and in H-mode. Detachment cliff is a peculiar transition to detachment state which could cause issues for the automatic control of the divertor detachment. 

From October 2021 to December 2022, for over a year, I carried out my master thesis research at the Institute of Plasma Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences in Prague.

From September to November 2022, I conducted an internship at the National Institute of Fusion Science (NIFS) in Japan, host of the Large Helical Device (LHD) experiment. This internship was part of my educational activities for the “Science and Technology of Nuclear Fusion” master at the Eindhoven University of Technology.
