From October 2021 to December 2022, for over a year, I carried out my master thesis research at the Institute of Plasma Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences in Prague.

From September to November 2022, I conducted an internship at the National Institute of Fusion Science (NIFS) in Japan, host of the Large Helical Device (LHD) experiment. This internship was part of my educational activities for the “Science and Technology of Nuclear Fusion” master at the Eindhoven University of Technology.

From September until November 2022, I worked on my master thesis at the Culham Centre for Fusion Energy (CCFE).

I am an Indian National and my interest in Nuclear Fusion made me come to Europe. I am a Master student from Aix-Marseille University , Marseille , France. I have interests in Entrepreneurship and aim to contribute to the development of Fusion Industry in my country. And as part of my Master thesis, I opted to work in the group “Socio-Economic Aspects of the deployment of Fusion Energy” at Eindhoven University of Technology under Prof. Niek Lopez Cardozo. I wanted to explore the market of Nuclear Fusion which would help me in my future goals.

In the lush green fields of a rather simple-looking German city lives one of the world’s largest and most sophisticated scientific experiments that is trying to solve the world's energy needs. I am talking about the Wendelstein-7X experiment at the Max Plank Institute for Plasma Physics (IPP) at Greifswald, Germany and I am one of the few people that had the opportunity to visit such a facility.

During the fall of 2022, I did an internship project at the university of Hiroshima, Japan. During my time here I researched the effect of a pressure anisotropy on the MHD stability of plasmas in the large helical device (LHD). This research was done by performing magnetic equilibrium simulations and then applying a linear MHD stability code to the resulting equilibrium. These simulations were run using different pressure profiles, which correspond with different heating schemes such as NBI heating, ICRH and ECRH.

Hannah Lindl - SUMTRAIC 2022 The last two weeks, I participated in the SUMTRAIC summer school in Prague, Czech Republic. The summer school was organized by the institute of plasma physics of the Czech Academy of Science (IPP CAS) and focused on data analysis of the COMPASS tokamak. After introductory lectures on the first day, we were divided in small groups each working on their own topic. My task was to explore the separatrix operational space of COMPASS. Together with our supervisors, we had a look at different diagnostics and analyzed their data.

I woke up on the 24th of March on the sound of my beeping phone. It was a mail from FuseNet informing me that I have received a scholarship to undergo an internship at DIFFER, one of the most prestigious research institutes in the world.

Between May and August 2022 as part of my masters programme ‘The Science and Technology of Nuclear Fusion’ at Eindhoven University of Technology I conducted an external internship at General Atomics in San Diego, California. General Atomics operates one of the most advanced currently running Tokamak based experiments. Here I worked on the implementation of the doppler shifted spectroscopy diagnostic of the neutral beam system. Using Doppler shifted light obtained from the beam lines we were able to identify the species of particles that were generated by the running ion sources.
