The PlasmaSurf Summer Course, organized by the Instituto de Plasmas e Fusão Nuclear, took place from July 16th to July 21st, 2023, and it proved to be an enriching educational experience. It was an excellent summer school with numerous interesting lectures and an exceptional accompanying program.

From 01-03-2023 to 01-08-2023 I’ve been in the south of France working on my internship at ITER. I was working on creating a network analysis of the ITER diagnostic systems requirements. For this I’ve created a new data structure where all the data regarding diagnostic systems and their relations to plasma parameters is added. After this I’ve also made three new models that can estimate the resulting values for availability, accuracy, and time resolution of the parameters that these diagnostics monitor.

As part of my graduation project in the ATLAS magnet group at CERN, I got the opportunity to attend the 2023 European Conference of Applied Superconductivity in Bologna, Italy.

1 Introduction My master thesis project funded by Fusenet it’s shared between Politecnico di Torino, where I pursued my master’s degree in nuclear engineering, and UPC, where I spent a total of six months developing a CFD model of the Permeator Against Vacuum (PAV) using the opensource software OpenFOAM.

Thanks to the generous funding provided by FuseNet, I had the incredible opportunity to participate in the "IPP-Summer University for Plasma Physics and Fusion Research" organized by the Max-Planck-Institute für Plasmaphysik in Garching (near Munich) from September 11th to 15th, 2023. This experience has had a profound impact on my academic journey, and I'd like to share the remarkable insights and connections I gained during this enriching experience. I went to Culham, England to do my internship at the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority. The project was to use collisional radiative modelling to investigate molecular processes in divertor plasmas, in collaboration with the MAST Upgrade team.

A Deep Dive into Plasma Physics: Reflecting on the 60th Summer School at Culham From August 17th to 27th, I had the privilege to attend the 60th edition of the Plasma Physics Summer School held at Culham. This experience was not only academically enlightening but also offered a unique opportunity for networking.

From April to July of 2023, I did an internship project at KTH in Stockholm, Sweden. The objective was to evaluate the accuracy of the reduced two-temperature model for hot tail runaway electron generation. This involved utilizing the DREAM code to simulate numerous plasma disruptions while varying scanning parameters and comparing the outcomes with a more complete (superthermal) model. During my project I did some literature research into runaway electrons and the working behind the Disruption runaway electron analysis model (DREAM).

With the support of FuseNet, I attended the PlasmaSurf Summer Course from July 16th to July 22nd 2023, organized by Instituto de Plasmas e Fusão Nuclear, a research unit of Instituto Superior Tecnico of Lisbon. It was a fast-paced week with lots of activities and opportunities, and I made great connections and great memories.
